THURSDAY: Moray had high hopes on their home course of regaining the League title for the first time in five years when they last hosted the event. However, Moray rivals Elgin had other ideas and took three of the four opening matches. Highlight was the debut of Andrew Moir and his 3/2 victory over Moray team captain Malcolm Maclemman. Kevin Thomson in his hundreth game in the league gave Moray a chance by beating Andrew’s uncle, Kevin Taylor but Andrew Fiske sealed victory before Jordan Milne birdied the last to pip Kyle Godsman.

FRIDAY: Nairn were pushed all the way by Forres in the opening game for both teams but clinched the points when Sandy Scott beat Grant Stuart. Forres have another hard game on their hands when they face defending champions, Nairn Dunbar in the morning.

SATURDAY: So it proved to be in a very tight match which swung away from Forres on two birdie putts by Kenny Donnelly and Freddie Brown on he final green to secure half and win respectively to give Nairn Dunbar a perfect start to their defence.

In another very close match, Nairn beat Elgin by the narrowest of margins when Robert Smith won on the final green against Andrew Moir to break the 3½-3½ tie . However, Andrew added to League history by being the youngest player to record a hole in one when he aced the par 3 4th using a six iron.

Moray, after their opening reverse, came back strongly to beat Nairn Dunbar and leave both teams on a 1 win and 1 loss record with everything to play for on the final day. Elgin’s match with Forres was closer but Elgin came out on top to keep their title challenge alive.

No matter what happens in the morning games, the only thing that is certain is the outcome of the Shield will not be decided until the last round of fixtures on the Sunday afternoon.

SUNDAY: Nairn maintained their 100% record and set up a potential title decider with Moray this afternoon after beating near neigbours, Niairn Dunbar 6-2. Moray were equally impressive in beating Forres. So a Nairn win or draw will be enough to regain the Shield but a Moray win will put them level on points but ahead of Nairn on games won difference. However, that would then give Elgin a chance to better both of them if they can beat Nairn Dunbar by a sufficient margin. So all to play for: follow on LIVE SCORING with on-course updates after 6,9,12 and 15-18 holes.

 Elgin faced a Nairn Dunbar team determined to finish on a positive note and when Freddie Brown won 4/3 the match was drawn 4-4 and that ended Elgin’s chances. Moray started well against Nairn and quickly established a 3-0 lead. However the top games were all favouring Nairn and Andrew Burgess, Robert Smith and Fraser Fotheringham brought the match level. Sandy Scott went down to his first defeat of the weekend  to Chris Stuart but Sean Burgess maintained his unbeaten record to win 3/2 over Kyle Godsman and give Nairn the crucial  share of the points to secure the Shield.

Robert Smith and Jordan Milne of Elgin were the two players with a100% record from their four games with Sean Burgess, Sandy Scott and Finlay Asher plus Lorne Miller of Nairn Dunbar all winning three points for their teams.
